Hotelling systems can vary from basic to high tech. The system generally works better when they are merged with the overall technology of the firm. Basically the company uses a piece of software which keeps track of all of the company’s resources. When the employee enters in the morning (or from home via the company intranet) the employee access the hotelling reservation software. The employee logs in using their unique login and password. Once the employee accesses the software she can either reserve spaces by their number, or she can look at a blueprint of the office space and visually select where she would like to work for the day. Once the employee has chosen her spot she then goes through the reservation process. She indicates how long she would like to book the spot for and click's reserve. The software then programs her telephone number to this spot and reserves it for her. The employee is then required to check in, via the software, once she begins to use the spot.
